Missions
Various colonial buildings, monuments and plantations, remnants of the memories of slavery in Suriname, can now only looked be upon as pieces of the past. About three centuries ago, slaves were brought to Surinam in a harsh boat from Africa.
Many slaves lived in abominable circumstances and therefore chose to flee into the dense jungle of Suriname to escape their master's cruel treatment. These runaway slaves nestled deep into the jungle where they had to fight daily for their survival. Setting together with many different authentic cultures of various tribes, a unique culture was born. In the present day Suriname, the descaendants of these brave Africans are now known as the proud Maroons of Suriname. These Maroons now form an indispenseble part of Suriname's community and their idyllic village, located near the rivers and islands of Suriname will most certainly be a memorable experience. Visits can also be made by "Korjaal," dug-out canoe to nearby Maroon villages that lie deep in the Amazon Rainforest.
At the invitation of and in cooperation with a local Marrons pastors couple, the pasoral team of House of Hope Ministries will bring every month, for a whole week visitations to several villages. During these personal contacts Jesus will be preached. Thisall will be done by a" dug out" canoe over the river. At Stoelmans Island, this pastors couple have their Full Gospel Church where, in cooperation with the pastoral team of House of Hope Ministries, the Word will be preached, bible studies will be given and counselling will be provided. There is a great need under the Marron people and many ot them are bound by evil spirits and are demon possessed. They also liveunder a yoke of curses from way back generations.
Because of the inland war 25 years ago, villages were slaughtered and their inhabitants escaped in great numbers to Paramaribo. In many neighberhoods/ gehetto's with enormous problem of pauperizing, anew gegeration grew up with drugs, criminality and immorality; a generation totally estranged from their background. Under yough children in the interioer and the city, a great need arose and the team of Houses of Hope Ministries become more involved.
