Resocialisation project ex-detainees
Prison-ministry
From the beginning a number of men of the Houses of Hope Ministries team have been serving as spiritual helpers to the detainees in prison. It has become clear by sharing with prisoners and their helpers inside and outside the prison, that there is hardly any structural help or resocialize programmes for ex-detainees.Together with a number of churches in Suriname and Holland in the fall of 2007, the Houses of Hope Ministries team started a small-scale project of resocialization for young ex-detainees that have accepted Jesus during their time in prison.
A number of them also contributed to our agricultural self-support project and are presently receiving ambulant help. In the spring of 2008 th team was invited by the Department of Justice care of detainees, to start giving individual teachings and counselling in prison-institutions.
Agricultural project
The self-support project is an agricultural one. We hope to generate the proceeds by selling vegetables etc, and so support the different projects. At the same time ex-detainees that are taking part in this will be offered a training that will help them for their future. The first participant in this project started attending an interdenominational Bible-school in Paramaribo, in 2007.Aim
By regular consultation with Justice, governmental organizations and churches in Suriname we hope to establish a good cooperation. The aim is that men and women who have finished their sentence can build a humane existence in Surinam society without being stigmatized for the rest of their lives. The Biblical values are the basis for a worthy life and a hopeful future.Support us
