Houses of Hope Ministries Suriname
Wim and Sonja Odendaal - Senior Pastors
In 2005 senior pastors Wim and Sonja Odendaal founded the House of Hope Ministries in Suriname. A ministry focussing on giving shelter to ans coaching of children in need; teaching, counselling Christian detainees in prisons and helping ex-detainees in their process of resocialization. As they themselves also have a background of neglect, abuse, children’s homes, youth prisons and immorality, this pastors-couple know better than anyone else, that the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the message of hope, means forgiveness and healing and deliverance for every person. No matter what culture, background or age.
Malvin Bergstroom - Executive Pastor
In January 2008 Malvin Bergstroom was presented as a pastor by House of Hope Ministries to the Assemblies of God Suriname. In February 2008 he was accepted as a pastor. The previous years he had been involved as an elder in the prison-church, coaching and counselling detainees. Since 2007 he has been employed within the Houses of Hope Ministries team. In August 2008 he was ordained by us as a pastor in a joint service. Malvin is married. Pastor Malvin is responsable for coordinating the ministry in the various prisons and ambulant coaching of ex-detainees and involved in giving Bible-studies and preaching in the House Church of House of Hope Ministries and beyond. The ministry starts in 2006 with the renting, renovating and painting of the first family replacement-home that will hold a maximum of ten children. In August 2008 the first children have arrived.
A team of Houses of Hope has worked for a year in a ministry-team of different churches in one of the prisons of Suriname. After that, in April 2008, Houses of Hope Ministries was invited by the Ministry of Justice/department care of offenders to come and teach in a number of prisons in Paramaribo.
Alongside these two socially oriented projects in Paramaribo Houses of Hope Ministries is concerned with missionary work in the inland of Suriname. By regularly involving Christians from abroad in their missionary trips to the inland of Suriname, they create funds that support their social projects in Paramaribo as well as a number of churches in the inland in a modest way.
