Prison ministry

Invited by Department of Justice

In 2008 the Houses of Hope team has been invited by the Department of Justice (care of detainees) to teach in a number of the prisons in Paramaribo. This entails a small group of Christians who are nominated to be released within a very short time.

Lessons

The first part of 10 lessons consist of a number of topics also used in Christian kick-off centers. The men receive a certificate upon passing these lessons.

The next part consists of bible-studies to give these men a stronger foundation. A large number of these men experiences a relapse into sin after their release. We build a relationship with these men by teaching in the different prisons. Because of this basis of confidence and trust it will be easier to help them resocialize after their release from prison.

A shelter for ex detaineed Christians

A number of these ex detainees has no place to stay. In 2011 we have it as our aim to open up a home for sheltering a number of ex detainees for a period of 6 to 8 months, as well as to teach them via a structured programme in which they can work in our self-supporting projects and get spiritual and social input. They will learn how to take care of themselves and to put up a small-scale project to make a living. And with the certififate and help of the Houses of Hope Ministries team to reintegrate into the Surinam society. See resocialisation for more information.
